What’s one more change of address when you have moved 25 times while in the military? That was the question Kent and Nancy Allain asked themselves as they weighed the possibility of a permanent move to the JAARS Center. The couple’s relationship with JAARS was set in motion in the 1970s when they supported missionaries who served at the center. Periodic visits with these friends prompted them to volunteer at JAARS several times. Kent also became better acquainted with the organization while helping renovate a Wycliffe regional office in Atlanta. Nearing retirement, Kent and Nancy often discussed how they would spend their leisure time. JAARS always lodged in the back of their mind, and in 2003 they tackled another move—from Montgomery, Alabama, to Waxhaw, North Carolina. “It was no big deal to uproot again; none of our children lived near us, so leaving family was not an issue,” they explained. God invariably weaves a person’s background into the role he or she assumes at JAARS. Nancy’s experience as a teacher and proprietor of two businesses sharpened her administrative skills, which she incorporates into her job as administrative assistant in Partnership Ministries. Due to Kent’s management position at JAARS, the couple was asked to attend a four-week training session in Orlando. He now handles multiple, detailed responsibilities in the Materials Transportation department. Kent and Nancy are passionate about teaching the Word and distributing Bibles. Their schedule at JAARS allows them to pursue these interests as Sunday school teachers and Gideon International representatives. They also take pleasure in attending vespers and opening their home for hospitality. “Our time here has been profitable and challenging and at times frustrating as there are not enough workers to perform all the necessary jobs,” relates Kent. “To aid Bible translators is an extra special blessing. The people and camaraderie are great. Keeping up-to-date with missionaries and mission activities around the world is such a thrill. The Lord has lavished us with many new good friends, good health and a sense of accomplishment.” Nancy adds, “Come volunteer your time and talents at JAARS. You will be fulfilled and your help will provide much-needed support to Wycliffe translators around the world as they work to make the Scriptures available to people in their heart languages.” |
