Travel by Water

In many places, missionaries rely on water travel to reach remote people groups—on islands, or along rivers and massive lakes. For them, aviation simply isn’t a practical or affordable way to get around.

Crowding into rundown boats, they cross rough waters far from any hope of rescue. Safety equipment is rare. Even before they arrive, they risk losing their lives.

JAARS Sea Ops helps them tackle that risk.

Our Equipment

JAARS Sea Ops uses inReach tracking devices and emergency locator beacons that operate reliably in the world’s most remote places. We also offer water safety kits and financial support for mission boat programs.

With incredible STOL capabilities, this practically unstallable tail-wheel aircraft’s geared engine, leading-edge slats, large Fowler flaps and interceptor devices atop each wing for added control make it perfect for field training.

Equipped to transport large loads, this trawler has carried countless Bibles, missionaries and necessities to the islands in Papua New Guinea’s Milne Bay.

This GPS device is suited for navigation, tracking, communication and emergency response in remote locations.

Designed to notify authorities of travellers in crisis, these use satellite technology to keep track of the user’s GPS position when in danger, giving rescuers a reference point in their search.

This vessel is jet-powered, allowing for high speeds, tight maneuvers and instant controls for precise river navigation.

Training and Equipping

In the Field

Teams of JAARS Sea Ops instructors visit mission workers around the world, providing:
  • Specialized vessels—outfitting, delivery and repair included.
  • Logistical and financial support for boat programs.
  • Safety equipment, signaling devices and emergency satellite beacons.
  • Training in water safety, small boat operations and outboard motor maintenance.
Having visited, worked or even lived in these places, our instructors can relate to and address mission worker's needs, situations and cultures.

At the JAARS Base

Visiting missionaries can receive the same training their co-laborers receive overseas. JAARS can also prepare them to instruct fellow co-laborers—expat or local—back on the field.

One instructor can multiply the number of people reached with the gospel. That’s why we provide each instructor-in-training with:
  • Sea Ops training geared toward instructors.
  • Experience as teachers-in-training.
  • Preparation for unique, outlier situations.
  • Cultural development (when appropriate).
